Blogging vs. BabblingThis is a featured page

"If I were writing a manifesto for 21st century teaching and learning, one of the items would be, “The 21st Century classroom does not teach writing — it teaches communication” - David Warlick

"It is clear from reading just a random sample of students' blogs that they do not have a clear idea of what to write. I ask them only for their summary of the news item and any comments they may have, such as why they chose this item, what they feel its import is" - Marco Polo

Remember, you probably started your students blogging because you wanted their written communication skills to improve over time. While there needs to be accountability and some form of assessment, you might want to rethink blogging if that's what's driving your interest. Don't hop on this bandwagon unless you're going to take the time to read what students write and actively participate in blogging along with them.
